Lower Columbia Community Action Program (CAP) has received extra federal funds to help an additional 700 low-income households pay heating bills in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties.

CAP already has helped 937 households this season and has $264,300 remaining to help additional families, the agency said in a press release.

Households must qualify as low income under the requirements of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). For example, one person cannot earn more than $1,134 per month, after taxes; for a two-person household, $1,532; for a three-person household, $1,930.

People do not need to have a shut-off notice for this program.
