CAP is throwing a party “like this town has never seen,” says Angie Leppert of Fibre Federal Credit Union. Leppert is co-chair for “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

The “girls night out” packed with 1980s dance music and Material Girl spirit is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 18 at the Monticello Hotel.

The bash is a fundraiser put on by the CAP Foundation and will fund the many services provided by the Lower Columbia Community Action Program, including Meals on Wheels and Help Warehouse.

Come and join the iconic “Thriller” dance of the ’80s, led by the Fresh Attitude Dance Studio, raffle prizes and an auction, and karaoke led by Raeann, the local singer who will be DJ for the evening.

Participants can vie for prizes for the best ’80s outfits, best karaoke performances, and raffle items donated by more than 25 local businesses, including Estetica, Spa Euphoria and Simplicity Salon.

Get a free “glamour” shot from Jessica Lemmons Photography, and bid on auction items including a seven-night stay on Kauai, a houseboat cruise with lunch and dinner for six on Lake Merwin, an afternoon of sailing on the Columbia River for four, and a day’s fishing trip for two through Erik’s World Class Fishing Adventures.

“The event is for all women, including professional women, retired women, stay-at-home moms, women in college,” said Leppert. (Young things under 18 are also welcome).

“In part, this is about nostalgia,” says Leppert. “The ’80s decade was a special time for many of our generation. It was our youth, and holds memories of fun, freedom, first love, friends going out dancing.”

Angie Housley, the other co-chair, says “We thought this would be a great way to help our community and have a lot of fun doing it.”

Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at CAP, 1526 Commerce Avenue (next door to the Columbia Theatre) at Longview Curves, or online at www.lowercolumbiacap.org

Major sponsors for the event are Fibre Federal Credit Union, Columbia Bank and Three Rivers Athletic Club.
