Basic Food Card

(Formerly Food Stamps)

What it is: The Basic Food Program helps low-income individuals and families obtain a more nutritious diet by supplementing their income with Basic Food benefits.

Who is eligible: Individuals who reside in Washington State must meet:

  • Income and resource requirements
  • Citizenship or alien status requirements

Legal immigrants who are no longer eligible for federally funded food assistance due to new alien requirements passed under the Personal Welfare and Work Opportunity Act may be eligible for our Basic Food Program for Legal Aliens.

Income and resource requirements: Your Basic Food benefits are based on your family size and your family income. Check the chart below.

Who is not eligible:

  • Fugitive felons
  • Ineligible aliens

If you receive Basic Food assistance you must:

  • Participate in the Food Stamp Employment and Training Progra, if required in your area.
  • Complete requested eligibilit review.
  • Cooperate with Quality Assurance, if you're contacted by them.
