CAP program helps produce business make a fresh start

Les and Christy Payton are back in the produce business, and this time they’re better prepared to succeed. But the Paytons are bringing more than
fresh fruit and vegetables back into the community.
They’re bringing hope to individuals and families who have also struggled. Three years ago, the Payton family — Les, 42, Christy, 37 and their four children, now ages 7-17 — started selling produce at Bonnie Doble’s Longview farm on Pacific Way. But Doble’s highly publicized zoning conflict with the city last year forced the Paytons to move to another site off West Side Highway north of Kelso.
